Recreational kayaking is exploding in popularity. And Huntsville, Tennessee is a great place to paddle!

While the Big South Fork River in the nearby Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area is a popular destination for whitewater kayakers, the New River further upstream is much calmer. The flat water is perfect for recreational kayakers. There are several spots to put in and take out, such as the U.S. Hwy. 27 bridge, the Winona Road bridge or our Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency-constructed boat ramp right here in town! Pack a cooler, take your fishing gear and enjoy a day on the water.

Also, you might want to enjoy a day of kayaking on the Flat Creek Reservoir (pictured above). It is a 200-acre impoundment that supplies the water needs of Huntsville and surrounding communities, and is open for recreational use by the general public.
